Classroom Organisation
In order to promote independence, please ensure that your child is in his/her class line when the whistle goes at 8:45 ready to enter the school on their own.

Children should be coming to school with their reading book and record, book bag and named water bottle every day.

PE kits should remain in school for the week, with all items named. Any children with earrings that cannot be removed must have tape in their bags so that they can be covered during PE lessons.

Reading books will be changed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Homework will be sent out on Friday and expected back on the following Thursday. Please keep all workbooks in their homework folders. Homework will consist of a spelling sheet of eight spelling words, a page from their Maths mental workout workbook and a page from their Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling Workbook. The page numbers for each activity will be at the top of your child’s spelling sheet. There will be a spelling test on a Friday. This is a new system and we will be reviewing it at the end of term.

Times table – Every week the children will be given a times table to practise. Please ensure you spend a few minutes a day learning these with your child. Times table will be revisited over the year to ensure confidence. They will be tested on that times table on Friday.

Handwriting – Please persevere with the cursive style of handwriting. Your child will get there in the end!

Helpers for reading
Teaching assistants aim to hear your child read as much as possible. We would really appreciate some volunteers to help with this. Let your class teacher know if you are able to hear readers.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday teachers
Mrs Brookman’s class on a Monday morning will be covered by Mrs Arnold. On Wednesday afternoon her class will be covered by Mrs Van Schie.

The following websites are very useful for helping support your child with learning.

Each class visits the library regularly. Please ensure your child has their library book in their tray once they are ready to return it. Children cannot receive a new library book until the old one is returned. Lost library books cost £5.00 to replace. Library days are as follows:
Mrs Camp-Overy’s class – Friday
Mrs Brookman’s class – Friday

In order to ensure we cater for all the learning needs of the children, we differentiate the work set. This is very important to ensure that you child reaches their full potential and their confidence is maintained. The class teacher works with different focus groups throughout the day, supporting and extending all abilities. These groups are reviewed regularly to ensure your child is reaching their full potential.
