Dear Parents and Children,
Words of the Week
Each week the children from Y2-6 are given a word of the week in order to increase their vocabulary. It would be wonderful if you could support this by using the word at home. Children need to be exposed to a wide and varied vocabulary.
Year 2: glimpse; Year 3: development; Year 4: aghast; Year 5: apathetic; Year 6: repugnant.
Parents often ask how they can be more involved in their children’s progress and Talk Homework is one way that would help, especially as the themes are chosen to support current learning. This is not meant to be an onerous task but something that can be enjoyed around the dinner table. Research has proved that parent engagement is key to a child’s success and Talk Homework is recommended as a method of supporting this.
What have you enjoyed in your first week?
Name all the things God created.
How can you be a bucket filler at home and at school?
Have you ever made a mistake? What should you do if you make a mistake?
Why do people go to see horses racing? How many metres are there in a furlong?
In what way are you going to think with a growth mindset this year?
What do you hope to achieve in Y6?

English and Maths Workshops for Parents
9th October-Y1 parents in Miss Lazenby’s classroom.
12th October-Y2 parents
For many years now we have been hosting trainee teachers from Bethel University, USA. We are looking for host families to accommodate these students from Thursday 4th to Thursday 27th January. For some of these days they will be travelling to other countries/places of their choice and for two of the weeks they will be attending various schools around Maidenhead. You will be paid £320 for their accommodation. My preference is for two young people to share so that they can travel together, especially if they are coming home late at night. If you are able to provide accommodation please let me know. They are delightful young people; host families in the past have always enjoyed having them.
Please do ask if anything in the newsletter is unclear.
