Children in Year 5 learn Japanese in their weekly Japanese lesson. With the aid of a grant from the Japan Foundation we are able to employ a native speaker – known as “Sensei” (meaning “teacher” in Japanese).
Every Japanese lesson begins and ends with the same greeting that children in Japan use in their classrooms. They stand to greet the teacher in Japanese, then children and teacher bow to each other to show their mutual respect.
